CURATORIAL FELLOWSHIP (Starting January 2019) Start Date: Tuesday 1/1/2019 — End Date: Tuesday 1/1/2019 Admission:0 Deadline December 1, 2018 Join our great team and get hands-on experience learning how to convey concepts in a museum-quality exhibition space with sculpture and new media works. Work with us for 9 months, 5 hours a week, and then curate one of ASG’s eight annual exhibitions in August 2019! The gallery will provide materials and full support for your final exhibition, bellow is some of the highlighted support: -Printed exhibition card for promoting your show -Access to projectors and monitors, sound equipment, media players -Full support for installing the show you always dreamed to curate! -paint -360 virtual reality documentation Regular DSLR High-Quality Documentation Video Documentation Your Artist Talk will be live as well vinyl Responsibilities: – Fluency with contemporary art – Attend Openings, First Friday events, Second Saturday Artist talks and be ready to help – Open and close gallery on agreed upon times, usually 12:30-5: 15 pm (turn the exhibition on and off) – Converse with public enthusiastically about the exhibitions – Meet with exhibiting artists – Work with others to update the database – Author and edit exhibition materials for Mailchimp, social media, and press outreach – Prepare major press outreach to promote exhibitions and special events – Consistent Social Media messaging – Post the exhibitions and events on event websites – Minor cleaning and vacuuming before events – Setup the bar and keep it organized before and after events – Manage the bar during the event – Encourage donations – Count visitors to ensure we aren’t over capacity – Check bathroom and perimeter of the building periodically for things that need attention – Congenial, professional representative of the institution Desired Skills and/or Characteristics: – A background in art and/or art history with two years minimum of an undergraduate degree – MFA, MA or VCS in Fine Arts, curatorial studies and visual critical studies is a plus – The desire to work with the public and learn the ins and outs of nonprofit management – Experience with both Mac OSX and Windows 10 operating systems – Basic knowledge of MailChimp and Google Apps. – A sincere interest in and/or experience working with nonprofit art organizations – Good verbal communication skills – Flexible availability, with at least 4 hours/week on Fridays and Saturdays. Some evening hours are required to cover events and gallery openings.
