Innovative Art Kiosk Installation by Frank Boban Comes to Downtown Redwood City Start Date: Saturday 5/18/2019 — End Date: Sunday 6/23/2019 Admission:Free The Redwood City Improvement Association has announced the latest Art Kiosk Installation by San Mateo County native and San Jose State University senior, Frank Boban. The exhibit is titled “Alone” opening on Saturday, May 18 at 4 p.m. in one of Downtown Redwood City’s Courthouse Square Kiosks. The opening reception will reveal the newest interactive art exhibit that the community can engage with as part of the rotating art installation project. “Alone” is a site-specific photo based installation that will transform the Art Kiosk into a giant camera obscura for viewers to walk into and experience real time city happenings and actions. The glass facades will showcase four giant photographs of Redwood City locations and the surrounding area taken by Boban in 2019. “Alone” will be on display through June 23. In partnership with Fung Collaboratives, the rotating Art Kiosk Installations will continue throughout 2019 with different featured artists in an effort to enhance the community’s fine art scene for residents and visitors. She is Kumu Hula (hula teacher) of H?lau Ka Ua Tuahine of Berkeley, California and is currently one of the Artistic Directors of the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. An advocate for cultural understanding, M?healani encourages her students to explore and celebrate their cultural differences and common humanity. H?lau Ka Ua Tuahine will take you on a journey to the islands of Tahiti with an evening of ??te?a, ?aparima and mehura accompanied by live singing and a traditional Tahitian drum orchestra. H?lau KaUaTuahine is an organization dedicated to the study, protection and perpetuation of the performing arts of Hawai’i and Tahiti. It is named after the gentle “sister” rain that falls in the valley of M?noa in Honolulu. They have presented in performance throughout California and internationally, appearing in venues from the Hollywood Bowl, the Heiva celebrations of Tahiti, French Polynesia and the National Museum of New Zealand.
