“Monument to the Plastocene IV” Art Kiosk Installation Comes to Redwood City’s Courthouse Square Start Date: Friday 6/12/2020 — End Date: Sunday 7/5/2020 Admission:Free The Redwood City Improvement Association in partnership with Fung Collaboratives, has unveiled the latest Art Kiosk Installation exhibit by artist Tara de la Garza. Titled “Monument to the Plastocene IV,” this thought-provoking installation will be visible every day & night through the Art Kiosk windows from Friday, June 12 through Sunday, July 5. “Monument to the Plastocene IV” reflects environmental justice and stewardship of the planet to reveal stories embedded in our collective consumption, specifically of single use plastic, in hope of creating a community dialogue. As part of this installation, de la Garza will host a virtual discussion and closing via Zoom on Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m. When viewing the exhibit through the windows, please remember to practice social distancing by staying at least six-feet away and wearing a mask. Great Symphonies of the 20th Century, A Four Week Online Seminar with Professor Stephen Schultz Start Date: Thursday 7/9/2020 — End Date: Thursday 7/30/2020 Admission:$75/series, $20/class This exciting new class will cover the development of the Symphony as the major genre of Classical orchestral music. From its roots in the 18th century, through major innovations in the 19th century, we will concentrate on Symphonic masterpieces of the 20th century. The focus will be on specific musical characteristics of the countries and regions where the composers lived. We will cover the instrumentation and harmonic and melodic characteristics of each symphony. Most importantly, we will dive into the programmatic and emotional content of the music created by these masters.
