Revealing Lost Woman of Science Klári Dán von Neumann Start Date: Tuesday 4/5/2022 — End Date: Tuesday 4/5/2022 Admission:Free Unrecognized during her lifetime for her remarkable achievements, Hungarian-born Klári Dán von Neumann was involved in the Monte Carlo simulations of atomic and thermonuclear explosions immediately after World War II. Like other women in STEM at the time, Klári worked in the shadow of a brilliant husband, John von Neumann, and experienced the shift away from female programmers as the profession gained prominence. It’s time to tell her story. Join us for an intriguing discussion with computer historian Thomas Haigh and journalist and Lost Women of Science host Katie Hafner moderated by computer scientist and Harvey Mudd College president Maria Klawe. Audiences join a cast of 35 actors, dancers, and musicians including ODC/Dance, 13th Floor, Akira Tana Trio, and Maze Daiko for a 75-minute guided, immersive performance. The journey will take guests on a roving adventure from the wings of peace to the wings of war, from boot camp to WWII internment camp, and from an interactive swing lesson to an 18-piece taiko finale.
