Superfest Disability Film Festival is the longest-running disability film festival in the world. Since it first debuted in a small Los Angeles showcase in 1970, it has become an eagerly anticipated international event—co-produced by San Francisco’s LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Paul K. Longmore Institute on Disability at San Francisco State University. For more than 30 festivals, Superfest has celebrated cutting-edge cinema that portrays disability through a diverse, complex, unabashed and engaging lens. Superfest is one of the few festivals worldwide that is accessible to disabled filmgoers of all kinds. All films at this screening will be presented with captioning and open audio-description and all live dialogue will be available with American Sign Language and live captioning. As she prepares to be one of the first deaf poets to compete in a spoken-word slam, her journey leads to an unexpected collaboration. *Song For Rent, After Jack Smith* Malic Amalya, USA/ 2018/5 min Shot on 16mm film and with a loop of Kate Smith singing “God Bless America” in the background, in this adaptation of a 1969 film by Jack Smith, Barbarella Bush joins Rose Courtyard – a drag character based on Rose Kennedy – in a campy exploration of US hegemony, queer assimilation, and queer disruption. *Carlotta’s Face* Fabian Driehorst, Valentin Riedl, Germany/2018/ 5min Animated Short As a child, Carlotta didn’t expect the people around her to have faces. She even didn’t recognize her own face. This animated short shares her journey as she learns about her difference through isolation and cruelty until she later finds that art offers her a way to finally recognize herself. AND MORE! There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase, coffee teas, and alcolholic beverages at the Freight and Salvage cafe. Is the venue and festival accessible? 100% access is impossible, but we are always striving to get as close to it as we can. In addition to ample space for wheelchairs; a friendly environment for service animals; and a scent-free environment; films will be audio described and captioned; and ASL interpreting and live-captioning will be provided.
